Chetola Resort goes above and beyond for pet owners with its spacious grounds and pet-friendly rooms. Their pet-friendly lodge rooms are conveniently located on the first floor, making trips outside a breeze.
The experience our dog, Freya, had at the Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock went beyond any expectations I could have ever had for our first time at a pet-friendly hotel in Blowing Rock. Immediately upon check in, I was given a “Doggone Friendly Package” and Freya received all the love from the girls at the front desk.
As long as she was leashed and wearing her Chetola bandana, Freya was welcome in every area of the hotel except for the obvious – the restaurant and pool.

Picking the right pet-friendly hotel isn’t just about finding a place that says “pets allowed.” It’s about making sure the hotel is comfortable for both you and your furry companion, with thoughtful amenities and policies that actually work for your needs.
Trust me, after traveling with my dog Freya, I’ve learned the difference between a hotel that’s truly pet-friendly and one that just tolerates pets.
When choosing a pet-friendly hotel in Blowing Rock, consider the location, amenities, and reviews from other pet owners. Is the hotel close to pet-friendly trails or parks? Do they offer amenities like outdoor pet relief areas or treats for your pup?
Reading reviews can be a game-changer—they often highlight how the staff treats pets and whether the policies are as friendly as they sound.
Important Pet-Friendly Amenities
Pet Deposits and Costs per Night
Most pet-friendly hotels charge a nightly fee or deposit to cover additional cleaning. Fees usually range from $25 to $75 per night, depending on the hotel. While it can feel like an added expense, knowing it helps maintain a clean, welcoming space for everyone makes it worth it.
Breed and Weight Restrictions
This one’s a biggie, especially if you have a larger dog. Some hotels have weight limits (often around 50 pounds) or breed restrictions, which can be frustrating if your pup doesn’t fit their criteria.
Before booking, double-check the hotel’s pet policy—most list these details on their website. And if they don’t, give them a call to avoid surprises at check-in.
Pet Relief Areas
A hotel with an accessible, clean pet relief area is a lifesaver. Some places even have designated walking trails or fenced-in spots where your dog can stretch their legs after a day of exploring. Chetola Resort, for example, has plenty of open green spaces, which Freya loved.
Unattended Pets Policy
If you’re planning to visit spots where pets aren’t allowed, like some restaurants or museums, check the hotel’s policy on leaving pets alone in the room. Many hotels, like Chetola Resort, allow pets to stay crated in your absence, which made it easy for us to enjoy some pet-free outings without worrying.
Crate Requirements
Some hotels require pets to be crated anytime they’re left alone in the room, while others may not enforce this. If your dog isn’t crate-trained or you’re unsure about the policy, confirm this with the hotel before booking.
Choosing a pet-friendly hotel that fits your needs takes a little extra research, but it makes all the difference for a relaxing trip with your furry friend. Ready to narrow down your options?
These hotels don’t just welcome pets—they go the extra mile to ensure your furry companion is comfortable and cared for. Whether it’s a quick getaway or an extended stay, these pet-friendly accommodations in Blowing Rock make it easy to travel with your best friend.
Travel Tips for Pet Owners
Traveling with your pet is an adventure in itself—one filled with wagging tails, curious sniffs, and maybe a little chaos. But let’s be honest, it takes some preparation to make sure your furry friend is as comfortable and happy as you are.
After traveling with my dog Freya, I’ve learned a few tricks that can save you both from unnecessary stress.
1. Pack the Essentials
Think of your pet’s travel kit like your own—everything they might need should be ready to go. Include food, water, travel pet bowls, poop bags, a good leash, a favorite toy or blanket, and a travel dog bed to help them feel at home.
Don’t forget any medications they might need, and bring a copy of their vaccination records just in case.
2. Plan for Downtime
Traveling to a new place can be overwhelming for pets, so schedule plenty of breaks. Whether it’s a quiet walk or a moment to relax in your hotel room, giving them time to adjust can make a world of difference.
3. Introduce the Crate Ahead of Time
If your dog will be crated during the trip or while you’re out, make sure they’re familiar with it beforehand. Freya wasn’t a fan at first, but letting her hang out in her crate at home with treats and toys made her more comfortable when it came time to travel.
Our favorite crate folds up for easy travel and is durable enough that it can’t be chewed apart while you’re away.
4. Stick to Their Routine
As much as possible, keep feeding, walking, and bedtime schedules consistent. Pets find comfort in routine, and sticking to it can help ease their anxiety in unfamiliar settings.
5. Do Your Homework
Research pet-friendly attractions, restaurants, and rest stops before you go. Knowing where you can take your pet—and where you can’t—avoids last-minute stress. And always confirm hotel policies in advance, especially around unattended pets.
6. Be Ready for the Unexpected
Carry a pet first aid kit and familiarize yourself with local vets near your destination. Hopefully, you won’t need them, but having a plan can give you peace of mind.
Traveling with a pet isn’t always smooth sailing, but with a little preparation, it’s one of the most rewarding ways to explore the world. Because let’s face it—everything’s better when your best friend is along for the ride. Ready to plan your Blowing Rock getaway?
